Treasure Base of the Nation
Lagos State

Rivers State is one of the 36 states of Nigeria. Its capital is Port Harcourt, an Igbo oil hub and commercial city. It is bounded on the South by the Atlantic Ocean, to the North by Imo, Abia and Anambra States, to the East by Akwa Ibom State and to the West by Bayelsa and Delta states.

The official language in port harcourt is English like most of the state but pidgin English is more widely used as well as Ikwere-igbo language in most of port harcourt , however, other languages like Ijaw, ogoni are spoken in the outskirts of the capital city. Rivers state has a large immigrant population from Nigeria like the hausa, yoruba and pretty much every tribe in Nigeria as well as foreign citizens who call it home, despite occassional unrest by militia Niger delta groups.

Rivers State is tribally diverse to an extent and made up of mainly Ikwerre, an igbo subgroup( over 90 percent of population), and a small amount of ijaws. ogonis etc populations that dwell mainly in the ocean coastline of the state.

The inland part of Rivers state consists of tropical rainforest; towards the coast the typical Niger Delta environment features many mangrove swamps.

Due to its beautiful layout and peculiar topography, Port Harcourt, christened Garden City, is accessible by road, rail, air and sea. Apart from being a railway terminus and having one of the busiest airports in Nigeria, Port Harcourt has the unique natural advantage of being the nations second largest sea port with another sea port, the Ocean Terminal at Onne. However, it is the production of oil and gas that Rivers State is most famous. With enormous reserves of crude oil and natural gas, Rivers State account for more than 40% of Nigeria crude oil production. Apart from this, there are many petrochemical related industries in the state which also harbour the first petroleum refinery in Nigeria. Nigerias gigantic liquified natural gas project is located in Bonny in the state
